subject Cardinal Flower

Cardinal Flower (Lobelia Cardinalis) is native to the Americas and can be found along stream beds growing up to five feet tall. Its striking red tower can be seen in mid August along Laurel Hill Creek in Forbes State Forest, Pennsylvania, which is where I first discovered this unique looking wildflower. Because of its long tubular flowers, the Cardinal Flower relies on hummingbirds for propagation.
